Reflections by Amelia Hankin

Join us for our monthly Guild meeting on Saturday, December 6. At that time, our summer print exchange, Explicit Content, will be distributed to participants.

Shortly following the meeting, Amelia Hankin will lead us in a workshop on Japanese waterbased woodblock printing. An introduction to Moku hanga, this workshop will teach you how to work with various carving tools, transfer images, carve an image, create kento registration marks for more accurate registration, and print by hand using a baren. This versatile technique allows for an edition of multicolor prints without the need for solvents or the printing press. Itinerary below.

Meeting—Plus Two Save-the-Dates

This Saturday, November 8, we will hold a regular Guild meeting at at 10:30am. The studio is open for work afterward.

Save the date for next month’s workshop. After our regular meeting on Saturday, December 6, Amelia Hankin will teach us Japanese water-based woodblock printing. This workshop was originally scheduled for November, so please note the new date. Amelia has delighted us in the past with workshops on drypoint and woodblock technique—don’t miss it!

Also save the date for next week’s lecture and workshop from visiting artist Bridget Sue Lambert on Thursday, November 13, from 4:30pm to 7:10pm in SOA Room 1009, the printmaking studio. She will teach her techniques for creating and photographing dollhouse dioramas, the medium in which she most frequently works. To participate, contact Steve Skowron at sskowron@gmu.edu.
